Intern Spotlight: Jeremy Ni

“It’s all about people.” Jeremy Ni finished his internship with Adobe Inc. with this motto ingrained in him. The company creates and manages digital experiences tailored to its consumers’ needs with programs that range from creating media (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.) to analyzing and developing business strategies.

The IS Core gave him the first taste of this principle. Students learn that their creations need to help and meet an individual’s needs. He says the task of meeting a customer’s need has to be the top priority. “Don’t focus on ideas,” he says. “Focus on people.”

The second year MISM student joined the tech company last summer, working on two different teams. His first role was as a liaison between the company and its 17,000 employees around the world. Using Adobe’s new Service Now platform, he monitored tool distribution among various teams and employees.

He also worked on the User Acceptance Testing team where he developed and ran tests on new products. In essence, his job was to prove to the clients that the products worked and met their requirements.

Working at Adobe on these different teams provided him with many opportunities to meet people from diverse backgrounds. He said, “In order to get things done, you really need to meet with people and get to know them.” He worked with clients and other Adobe employees all over the world, including in India, Romania, Canada, the U.S. and his home country of Taiwan.

Jeremy always thought he wanted to study business because of the people he would to interact with in his career. However, after taking an IS class, he found a love for programming. “I was never good at math so I didn’t think I could ever be successful in this kind of field,” he explained. “But taking the courses helped me see that I could be successful in it. That’s really the key to being successful: keep learning and trying new things.”

His work at Adobe fostered his love for learning new things combined with his focus on people. He left the summer with both greater communication and technical skills that will help him in his future career as a business solutions analyst. Keep an eye out for Jeremy. He might just land back at Adobe one day.
